We learned to believe in ourselves, to be resilient and to have persistence, we became open minded, gained self confidence, learned that if we want to create an impact in our community, we have to work really hard in order to create change. We did more than what we planned, and better than we expected. We knocked at one door and suddenly all the doors were open. We learned that we are all capable of achieving our goals if we try our best. We have made new friends and partnerships along the way. Our team has learned that every good outcome comes with teamwork. We have also learned not to be afraid to reach out to bigger institutions. Over the year. we have also improved our leadership skills, and our self confidence.
You may asked why did we hold so many events, this is our honest answer, "we wanted to hold a big fair at school, but it wasn't approved, and we were worried that our project wasn't progressing as expected. So we got a list of all the events happening in our city, and we started signing up for all the events. We reached out to the Palmdale City Library. Our team also requested NASA speakers, they were interested in coming, but there was no response from school. Not being able to have NASA speakers at our school opened a bigger door to our team, our dream came true! We were able to send our weather balloon to the stratosphere with the help of meteorologists from NASA. Through this experience we learned that persistence is key, and that when one door closes another one opens. We could not have NASA speakers at our school (the door closed), but we had the opportunity to launch a weather balloon from NASA (the door opened)!
We didn't expect to host so many events, and our supporters are inviting us to more events. What would we do different, you may ask? We would mark the Women's March, and March for Science, so we wouldn't miss them, but they occurred when we had our major events. We only missed one event in our city, and it was the Poppy Festival. We enjoyed the change that we are making and the impact that we are creating, we would do it over again, and we say it with a smile because we have impressed ourselves with our project. It is hard to believe that we did so much work!
