NASA Girls Empowering Girls

Mission Statement

We are a Girls Build LA team, funded by the LA Promise Fund. We attend Palmdale Learning Plaza and provide outreach to our community in order to inspire girls to follow Science Technology Engineering and Math. We host workshops all around our city motivating girls to develop an interest in STEM. Some of our hands-on activities include “fireworks in a jar,” density of  liquids, mealworm life cycle, and face painting. Throughout our project we ask participants to write notes to send to the stratosphere because we had the opportunity to send a weather balloon to the edge of space. We have experienced what it feels like to be a meteorologist, and this experience has impacted us to create a greater change. We will continue to inspire more  girls to get interested in science fields as we get a step closer to closing the gender gap in STEM.

What is Girls Empowering Girls?

G.E.G, or Girls Empowering Girls, is a group of middle school girls devoted to helping young females thrive in our rapidly changing environment. We want young women to believe in themselves and learn that they can be anything they want to be in life. Our 2016-2017 group of 8th grade NASA girls have all promoted to high school, our team will have 1 returning member who was in 7th grade last year and is returning as an 8th grade member. This year our team is determined to challenge ourselves and do even more than last year to get one step closer to future gender equity in STEM fields.

The NASA Girls created a powerful movement at our school and their success inspired many young girls to pursue their interest in STEM. We are continuing the legacy of the NASA girls as NASA Girls Empowering Girls. nasagirlsbuild.weebly.com
